Allergies and Essential Oils

by Sunrise Cleaning on January 29, 2013

Allergies are no fun. Whether they are caused by mold, pets or the environment you live in, they are uncomfortable and bothersome.  An allergy is defined as a hypersensitivity disorder of the immune system, or an exaggerated immune response or reaction to substances that are generally not harmful.

What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are made from parts of plants – the seeds, bark, leaves, stems, roots, flowers, and fruit. These oils can be distilled from the plant material or extracted. The majority are distilled. It takes tons of plant material to create tiny amounts of essential oils.

Building up your immune system using essential oils is one way to cope with allergies. Essential oils can also help those who suffer from allergies get some relief. Of course, finding the root cause of the allergy is your biggest asset and will eventually help lead you to dealing with the problem once and for all.

I regularly use essential oils at home and in my Cleaning business and often recommend them to my clients. When buying Essential Oils, make sure you buy them from a reputable company. I like Young Living Essential Oils. I use the Thieves Household Cleaner at home and in my business. My clients all love coming home to a Thieves scented clean home—I hear it from customers all the time.

Here are a few Essential Oils that that I recommend:

Lavender Essential Oil is a natural antihistamine and anti-inflammatory.*

Peppermint Essential Oil has analgesic (pain relief) and anti-inflammatory properties and has been used for centuries to relive nasal congestion.  For some individuals, the use of peppermint oil has eliminated the need for allergy shots.*

Cedarwood Essential Oil has a warm, deeply sweet-woody scent; it has both antihistamine and anti inflammatory properties.*

Golden Touch 1™ Essential Oil Collection provides immune protection all throughout the year. The oil blend formulas in this collection have been specifically created to take advantage of essential oil constituents that support many functions of the body.*

Let me know if you try any of these oils, and how they work for you—I’d love to hear your thoughts!
